How to Travel Japan on a $40 Budget - Day 2

Can you travel Japan on just $40 a day? We have 1 month in Japan to figure that out. Follow our blog to see how we travel Japan on a tight budget.

Where are we today?

Tokyo, Japan.

After trekking over 30 miles by foot throughout Tokyo and still barely even scratching the surface of the experiences the city has to offer, we felt compelled to continue onward and see more of Tokyo in-depth.

Where to stay in Tokyo?

After spending two nights in the Little Japan Hostel, we headed to our next shelter for the evening, which was Oakhostel.

Oakhostel was conveniently located near several destinations we had wanted to visit, such as the Tokyo Skytree. They also had a rooftop lounge area with a spectacular view!

What did we explore in tokyo today?

We experienced the scale of Kaminarimon

We started the day by passing through Kaminarimon, or the "thunder gate", toward the Sensouji temple.

Enjoyed the peace in Sensouji

The Sensouji Temple was huge and displayed a peaceful yet compelling presence.

Listened to Buddhist chants at Zoujouji

We then witnessed the Zoujouji Temple and the surrounding area, where several statues resembling children were neatly organized in columns, representing health to all youth and infants.

Stood under the presence of Tokyo Tower

Nearby, the Tokyo Tower protruded into the clouds with its impressive height. We opted out of visiting inside and instead stood amazed at the architecture from underneath the massive chunk of steel.

Marveled at Gundum and The Statue of Liberty in Daiba

We then ventured over toward the Rainbow Bridge and admired the Gundam display and the Statue of Liberty replication that were nearby.

The MORI Art Museum was next door, but unfortunately we didn't experience it due to our strict budget. Oh, well- you win some, you lose some!

How much did we spend?

Food: ¥2319 / $20.61

Transport: ¥814 / $7.24

Lodging: ¥1220 / $10.79

Sightseeing: $0

Other: $0

Total: ¥4350 / $38.64

Did we make our budget of 40$ today?

Although it was rough walking around all day and forgoing other pleasures, we can say that yes, we made it work!
